
Africa Music Awake is set to put Lagos on fire as it is organising a 3-day reggae festival in Lagos.
The event, which is billed for November is an event fashioned to bring peace and unity to Nigeria people and eradicate xenophobia attack in African countries.
At a media chat in Lagos, the initiators said reggae music is a brand that promotes peace, love and unity.
Nigeria Reggae Festival (NIREF) is the first of it kind in Nigeria, the idea and vision were initiated Iby Prince Emeka Ojukwu (founder Music Africa Awake), in the year 2015
According to the organisers:
“ Idea behind Nigeria Reggae Festival is to preach one Nigeria, one Africa.
In the same vein Nigeria Reggae Festival is a platform to generate funding to promote upcoming artists.
Also the festival is an event where foreign reggae artists will be present and Nigeria reggae artist and Africa reggae in the diaspora will have the opportunity to collaborate with them.
Nigeria Reggae Festival is a platform for cultural exchange between Caribbean , Jamaica, Nigeria, and Africa in the diaspora.
Nigeria reggae festival is a tool to attract tourists to the host state”.
Running from November 11-13 the festival is aimed at restoring peace and unity in Nigeria and beyond. Billed to perform are notable Nigerian reggae artistes, and famous international stars.
For the founder Music Africa Awake Foundation Prince Emeka Ojukwu peace, one love and unity are essential ingredients for development.
“If you look at what is happening in Nigeria and other African countries, there is tension and attacks every day.
We feel that Nigeria Reggae Festival could be used to preach peace and unity in Nigeria and Africa so as to build the kind of society everybody will be happy to contribute his/her quota to its growth,’’ he said.
The much awaited festival has gotten the endorsement of Lagos State Government and support from Jamaica government.
Meanwhile, organisers are leaving no stone unturned to ensure successful hosting of the event.
