
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department, DIG Abiodun Sylvester Alabi fdc, mnim, psc has been exclusively hosted on 2nd of September, 2023 at Hustle and bustle in FCT, Abuja by some like mind in the Nigeria Police Force to celebrate his promotion to the new rank with remarkable and gigantic achievements so far attained in the service of his father’s land, Nigeria.
Indeed, it was an evening of total merriment and joyous mood as friends of the celebrant showered him with mind boggling remarks, advice, encouragement and encomiums.
Among those that spoke was an Ekiti born retired AIG, Tunde Ogunsakin who described the Ilawe Ekiti born DIG, Abiodun Alabi fdc, mnim, psc as a confirmed ekiti home boy, he was born by ekiti parents and raised in ekiti city, that, ekiti people and Nigerians at large are highly proud of his steady elevation and commitment to the job of policing, he equally used the opportunity to encourage the younger officers to develop the spirit of cultivating people, that they will enjoy it on their retirement from the service.

DIG Alabi Abiodun fdc, mnim, psc was born on 31st December, 1964. After his Primary and Secondary education, he gained admission into University of Lagos where he studied Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology & graduated with a second class upper. A well organized and detailed-oriented personality with a taste for high standard of performance, DIG Alabi Abiodun, fdc, mnim, psc’s quest for excellence and thirst for more knowledge motivated him to enroll into the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife in 1988 where he obtained his master degree in 1989. Soon after, he offered himself in service of this great nation and got enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 3rd March, 1990 at the Nigeria Police Academy Kano. After the completion of his rigorous training for eighteen months, he was posted to Abia State where he started his professional career at Central Police Station Aba as Patrol & Guard officer. In 1994, he was posted to Osisioma Division, Aba as the Divisional Crime officer (DCO). In 1995, he took over as the officer in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Aba in Abia State. In 1997, he was deployed to Zone 6 Zonal Headquarters, Calabar as the officer in charge of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Crack Squad. In 1998, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). In 1999, he was nominated as a member of pioneer eleven man of Nigeria Police Force Contingent to KOSOVO on peace-keeping under United Nations Mission in KOSOVO (UNMIK). In 2001, after the completion of his mission in KOSOVO, he was mobilized into the elite Nigeria Mobile Force as a unit Commander and posted to Mopol 19 Port Harcourt, Rivers State. In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) and redeployed to Mopol 22, Ikeja Lagos as the Second in Command (2i/c) to the Squadron Commander. In 2004, he was deployed to Mopol 43, Diplomatic Protection Squadron in charge of the security of all embassies in Lagos as the Squadron Commander and got promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) in 2005. In 2009, he was demobbed from the Mobile Police Force and deployed to Zone 2 Onikan, Lagos as officer in charge of Investigation of the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (CID). DIG Alabi Abiodun, fdc, mnim, psc was later redeployed to Lagos State Command in 2011 and posted to Lion Building Lagos as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO). In 2012, precisely February, he was redeployed from Lion Building Division to Divisional Headquarters Ikeja as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO). In 2013, The dependable DIG in charge of FCID, Alabi Abiodun, fdc, mnim, psc was promoted to the rank Assistant Commissioner of Police and deployed to Force Headquarters Abuja as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Administration of the Mobile Police Force. In 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police and deployed to Taraba State as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Administration. In 2017, ever ready crime buster, DIG Alabi Abiodun, fdc, mnim, psc was redeployed to Bayelsa State as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Administration. In 2018, he was redeployed to his home state, Ekiti State as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operation where he was nominated to proceed on Higher Defence and Strategic Course at National Defence College Abuja in 2019. At the completion of his course as a Fellow of Defence College in July, 2020, he was promoted to the enviable rank of Commissioner and deployed to Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Lagos as Commissioner of Police in charge of Central Criminal Registry. In 2021, precisely February, he was redeployed to Bauchi State Command as the Commissioner of Police where he served till November, 2021. From Bauchi Command, he was deployed as Commissioner of Police, Administration Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Abuja. He was appointed Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command on January 24, 2022. DIG Alabi was promoted to the rank of AIG, and the newly promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police was redeployed to Zone 2 Command, Nigeria Police and assumed office at the Zonal Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos Precisely,on Friday, 17th February, 2023 and after serving diligently there for over two months, he was reposted to Zone 12, Bauchi before he was elevated to the enviable rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police, on the 19th of July, 2023 by Police Service Commission and posted him to be in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department.
An easy going and reliable super cop, DIG Alabi Abiodun, fdc, mnim, psc is a disciplined officer, thoroughbred professional and a dogged crime fighter who brook no nonsense. He a member of Nigeria Institute of Management (mnim), he is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, New York and Fellow of National Defence College (fdc), Abuja. He enjoys playing lawn tennis and watching detective movies. He is married and blessed with children.
