PART 6
“Right away, Madam Vice President,” the officer responded crisply.
Lilia screamed a string of profanities, thrashing against the security personnel as they gently but firmly guided her away from the table, her designer luggage trailing behind her in the hallway. David didn’t fight back.
He simply stared at me with wide, defeated eyes as he was led out of the dining room, finally understanding the true cost of greed and disrespect.
I smoothed down the lapel of my navy blazer, took a deep breath of the salt air drifting through the open promenade doors, and turned back to check on Carmen, the young server who had been treated so unfairly. I offered her a warm, reassuring smile.
“Are you alright, dear?” I asked.
“Yes, Ms. Morrison,” Carmen said, her eyes shining with admiration. “Thank you.”
“Let’s get you back to your tables,” I said gently.
As I walked away from the dining room and back toward my office overlooking the endless blue expanse of the ocean, I felt a profound sense of peace wash over me.
The nights sleeping in my old Honda felt like a lifetime away. I hadn’t just survived the betrayal of the people I loved most; I had turned their cruelty into the foundation of a brand-new empire, proving that a mother’s strength can never be measured by what she gives away, but by how she rises when everything is taken from her.
